What You'll Do:
The Director, Project Engineering is responsible for leading project engineering activities, engineering specification governance, document control, feasibility analysis, cost-informed project definition, and constructability reviews for Energy construction, marine infrastructure, strategic capital projects, and internal dry dock projects. This role helps ensure new opportunities are thoroughly vetted for technical risk and feasibility, and assigned projects are technically sound, appropriately documented, and aligned with safety, regulatory, operational, cost, schedule, and asset reliability requirements.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project engineering activities for assigned Energy construction, marine infrastructure, civil engineering, strategic capital projects, and dry dock projects.
- Maintain project engineering specifications and related governance practices to support consistent application of applicable standards and technical requirements.
- Establish and manage document control practices for engineering specifications, drawings, technical documents, design packages, and project deliverables.
- Coordinate civil engineering, marine construction, and dry dock project engineering activities with internal teams, engineering partners, shipyards, vendors, and contractors.
- Develop, review, and recommend feasibility studies, preliminary engineering reviews, cost estimates, constructability assessments, technical assumptions, and project definition materials within delegated authority.
- Review engineering documents, specifications, drawings, calculations, scopes of work, and construction packages for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Partner with Engineering Services, asset reliability, operations, maintenance, safety, regulatory, commercial, procurement, and project management teams to align project scope with business and operational needs.
- Identify engineering risks, scope gaps, cost drivers, and constructability challenges during the project lifecycle and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
- Support bid packages, vendor evaluations, contractor clarifications, technical recommendations, and change management processes.
- Support project engineering deliverables that promote safe construction execution, regulatory compliance, operational readiness, asset reliability, and lifecycle performance.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and coordination for project engineers, designers, external consultants, and cross-functional contributors.
Qualifications
Experience:
- 8+ years of progressive experience in project engineering, construction engineering, civil engineering, marine engineering, dry dock projects, industrial construction, energy infrastructure, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with engineering specifications, document control, feasibility studies, cost estimation, constructability reviews, contractor coordination, and multidisciplinary project execution preferred.
- Experience providing technical direction, coaching, or coordination to engineers, consultants, contractors, or cross-functional technical teams preferred.
Education & Credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Construction Management, or a related technical field required.
- Professional Engineer license preferred where applicable to civil, structural, or related engineering responsibilities.
- Equivalent combination of post-secondary education and directly related experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.

- Ability to travel as needed to support project reviews, operational alignment, vendor or contractor coordination, site visits, dry dock activities, and leadership meetings.

Working Conditions:
Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.
