Production Manager – Commercial Door Shop
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Commercial Door Shop Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations of the commercial door shop, including production, inventory management, purchasing, scheduling, safety, customer service, financial controls, and field operations.
Operations & Production Management
- Oversee all daily activities and operations of the commercial door shop.
- Manage workflow and production schedules to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Prepare and distribute work tickets for shop personnel.
- Review approved submittals and project requirements prior to ordering materials.
- Maintain project visibility by monitoring bid calendars, bid logs, project folders, billing controls, and backlog reports.
- Conduct occasional visits to jobsites and branch offices to ensure operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
Purchasing & Inventory Control
- Order materials for customer projects and maintain adequate stock inventory levels.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors regarding orders, deliveries, pricing, and material availability.
- Manage inventory quantities and review inventory-related reports.
- Oversee annual physical inventory counts and conduct periodic spot checks throughout the year to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Ensure materials are available to support production schedules and installation commitments.
Order Processing & Customer Support
- Review and process orders, including pricing verification for both stocked and special-order materials.
- Type and process all tickets with appropriate pricing information.
- Provide pricing support and quotations for other branch locations as requested.
- Respond to vendor inquiries regarding orders, pricing, and delivery schedules.
Scheduling & Logistics
- Schedule installation crews and coordinate manpower requirements.
- Schedule drivers and oversee delivery logistics to ensure timely product distribution.
- Coordinate production, delivery, and installation schedules to meet customer expectations and project deadlines.
Financial & Administrative Management
- Review and approve daily invoices and end-of-day financial transactions.
- Review and approve closed accounts payable transactions.
- Process installer invoices and verify job-related billing information.
- Monitor accounts receivable, particularly accounts placed on hold, and work closely with the AR team to resolve outstanding issues.
- Participate in monthly meetings regarding project draws and receivable status.
- Review and approve employee payroll.
- Approve expense reports submitted by sales personnel.
Contract & Project Administration
- Coordinate with legal teams regarding contracts, terms, and project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company policies.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures within the shop.
- Conduct routine safety reviews and maintain a safe working environment for employees.
- Ensure compliance with all (DOT regulations, forklift operations, OSHA compliance, etc.) applicable regulations, standards, and company requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead and direct shop personnel, drivers, installers, and administrative staff as assigned.
- Establish performance expectations and provide coaching, training, and development opportunities.
- Coordinate resources and staffing to support production demands and business objectives.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university, and 4-5 years of directly related experience in Commercial Doors shop; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of inventory management, purchasing, scheduling, and production operations. Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously. Understanding of financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes. Must also have strong customer service experience, and good organizational skills.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, trade journals, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or member of the business community.
- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Must be able to persuade individuals or groups to take actions that would result in obtaining a mutually desired outcome.
- Influencing others is a major requirement of this position.
- Must have exceptional leadership and teamwork abilities.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply concepts such as fraction, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions percentages, area, circumference and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Must be able to develop and interpret graphs and charts.

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
