Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Master and Chief Mate, the Second Mate is responsible for safe navigation of the vessel on their watch and traditional supervisory duties. Also responsible for the proper execution of the master's orders, supervision of the crew during deck operations and maintenance activities. Maintains a proper navigational watch, vessel logs, navigation charts, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Mate 1600 Gross Tons or equivalent (3rd Mate Unlimited) with Oceans Endorsement
- Mate on vessels less than 3000 GT (International)
- Valid STCW with all required endorsements (including, but not limited to OICNW, RADAR/ARPA, ECDIS, VSO or VPDSD, CPR/First Aid, and Advanced Firefighting)
- Mate of Towing Vessels
- Lifeboatman
- Current TWIC
- Valid Passport – must be able to travel internationally with no felonies, DUI, or other convictions which would restrict entry into Canada or other nations.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Familiarity with deck maintenance including planning and supervision
Additional Preferences:
- Helm Connect maintenance software experience
- Experience in the operation of a double drum tow winch
- Shipyard Competent Person
- Pilotage
- Letters of recommendation
- Unlimited/Limited DP Certificate recogonzized by the Nautical Institute
- Kongsberg Dynamic Positioning experience preferred
- Profiecient in Z-Drive vessels
Probation: 90 Workdays
Compensation: This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Compensation, including hourly wages or salary, benefits, and other terms of employment, will be in accordance with the applicable union contract. Specific pay rates and benefits will be provided during the hiring process and are based on the terms outlined in the agreement.
